Plugins are like the sauce that make your website extra nice and safe. This module is about installing plugins that will keep your site safe from hackers, spammers and email skimmers.

Module 7

7. More essential juiciness

Plugins are like mini-programmes and can do all sorts of magical things. This module we install plugins that take care of your legal obligations (privacy, cookie compliance) as well as cools things like Google Analytics, social media sharing.

Module 8

8. Blogging

What makes people and search engines come back to your website? Fresh, regular content. That’s what blogging is for. Here’s how to set up the blog and a template to make it easy to delegate when you’re too busy to do it yourself. I’ve also included a bonus module of how to use Canva – a great easy to use image creation tool that you can create your own royalty-free images.

Module 9

9. Getting their details

Capture the details of people who visit your site so you can continue the conversation by providing some useful information in exchange for their contact details. This module covers how to create and embed a sign up form. We also create an autoresponder that delivers the free ‘useful information’.

Module 10

10. Nurturing and bringing them back

Also known as the regular newsletter. Once you’ve captured details, we don’t let those interested contacts (potential clients) fester in your database! They signed up because they want to hear from you! I show you how to create a newsletter (we use Constant Contact as it’s really easy to use) and share some best practice that will make sure your time is used wisely and your newsletter leverages all your blogging efforts.

Pick Vee’s Brains Private Members Group is where you can get access to me through my private Facebook group where you can post as many trouble-shooting, techie or marketing questions as you like, get feedback & network with your peers. What other costs are involved?

There are costs associated with owning and running a website and email marketing. They include domain name and hosting plus email marketing subscription. Some stock images also have a small cost element, although I do share resources where you can find very low cost images. You might use a photographer, in which case they may charge you for their services. You also might want to get a logo designed, that will cost and costs will vary depending on who you choose to design it.

As a guide, a domain costs around £5, .com around £20 (for 2 years) and hosting is around £20 per year. In the course I use Constant Contact for setting up the sign up, autoresponder and newsletter tool and that costs £30+VAT per month.

However, depending on when you sign up, you could be lucky and take advantage of any special deals and offers that the suppliers are running.

Who am I?

Vee Smith - The Biz Tech Wiz

I’m Vee Smith and I’m the Biz Tech Wiz. I’ve been building websites since 1997 when the internet was in its infancy and we used dial-up to access it. There were no training courses back then when the company I worked for (a global, multi-million turnover listed company) asked me to build their website. I had to figure it out for myself by trawling the internet and seeing what others were doing and how.

It helped that I was hugely fascinated about this new technology. The bosses were so pleased with website I built that it was used as a showcase for the 30 subsidiaries they owned.

When I set my Virtual Admin business up in 2005 clients loved that I could build and tinker with their websites. I’ve since invested in online marketing training and am Constant Contact Core Certified and an Authorised Local Expert for Constant Contact. I make it my business to keep up to date with what online marketing works for small business owners so I can implement that in the countless websites I’ve created for various small businesses and solopreneurs in the past 10 years.
